Sam Michel

CEO of Chinwag

@toodlepip

Starting out in event management, running venues firstly in Canterbury then London gave me an early insight into team management, commercial pressures, marketing, tight deadlines and the most demanding of clients, and suppliers – getting a band to play when they don’t feel like it isn’t always easy.

Discovering the Web, and using a Computer Systems degree I thought I’d left behind, I was fascinated by the opportunities and the social implications offered by the Internet. After setting up Time Out’s first website, I worked at the UK’s first major web agency, Webmedia. Whilst there, I set up their content division and online marketing practice.

My experience covers agency work with clients like Alliance & Leictester, Lufthansa, BBC and MSN. Technology projects including a fan panel developed for the FA during the 2002 World Cup. Content projects including the award-nominated movie website, Popcorn.co.uk, for Carlton Communications plc. Marketing projects include numerous email marketing and eCRM projects from campaign-related work to strategy development.

I run Chinwag, one of the UK’s leading communities for new media professionals, which has developed from a single email discussion list to an online publishing company with a great management team, a recruitment service and lots of exciting developments for the future.
