Social Media Week City Focus: What’s Happening in Mexico City?

 

This is the fifth entry in a series of posts zoning in on the various cities of Social Media Week September 2010 and taking a look at the exciting things going on there.

After overviews of Social Media Week Los Angeles, Bogotá, Buenos Aires and Milan, we are happy to share a bit on the fifth and final home of SMW this September, Mexico City.

Social Media Week Mexico City will begin Monday, September 20, with an event on Social CRM. Social CRM is all about the way companies and individuals try to engage the customer in a collaborative conversations to provide increased and mutually beneficial value for both parties. Jesus Hoyos, a CRM guru and independent analyst for the CRM industry in Latin America, will lead this conversation.

Tuesday will feature, among highlights, some education-related content, including a conversation posing the question: Can You Learn From Social Media? Can you use social media in the classroom? What kind of knowledge is generated and how? These and others questions will answered by psychology Ph.D. candidate Alejandro Miranda, a psychologist and profesional provocateur in the fields of education and technology. Alejandro is the coordinator of EDUSol, producers of free education software since 2003.

Wednesday will take a more ecological perspective and includes an event by 350 Mexico called Social Networks for the Planet.  350 Mexico is an environmental group that promotes green and ecologic actions around the world using social networking and this event will cover the various ways that people around the world are helping make the world greener through exciting new technologies.

Thursday will focus on Journalism for the future, including a conversation featuring  with Elisa Najera, Raymundo Riva Palacio and Mario Campos discussing the following questions: how are journalists are using social media? What are the trends of contemporary journalism and how are they reflected in Mexico? Each will share their experiences and insights to discuss what’s happening in journalism today and what may come tomorrow.
