The issue of access to technology education is a socio-economic problem that we are becoming increasingly aware of. The skills of knowing how to use technology and being adept at its uses is invaluable to professional and personal developmental success, and these skills shouldn’t be just the domain of the privileged few.
At Social Media Week, we firmly believe in the power of collaboration and connection, striving to connect the greatest minds to create a more enlightened and prosperous world. So, when we heard that CampInteractive wanted to launch a program to support the futures of 25 kids through life-changing educational programs this summer, both we and SMW global headline sponsor Nokia wanted to find out how we could help.
Starting today, in partnership with crowdfunding site IndieGoGo we are launching a special campaign to raise $10k to help send these 25 students to Summer Tech Camp- and Nokia has agreed to match this amount once we hit our goal.
It costs $850 to put each student through the program. Your support, together with Nokia’s match, will fund scholarships for 25 amazing NYC kids.
At the conclusion of this intensive program, Summer Tech Camp students are given the opportunity to intern at top NYC technology companies– giving them the real-world experience that will ensure success. One of the top students will also be given a chance to present their work from the summer at Nokia’s Social Innovation Lab during September’s Social Media Week.
Who is CampInteractive
CampInteractive (CI) is a Bronx-based nonprofit that inspires underserved inner-city youth through the creative power of technology.
At CI, students are transitioned from consumers of media to creative and critical thinking producers. Through learning coding, photography, videography, website building, and blogging, students are able to cultivate a voice that will be heard and seen through various channels. These skills are then used to document their personal journey in exciting outdoor adventures such as: surfing, hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, sailing, camping, and more.
