Here at Social Media Week, we are a community that is passionate about accelerating our understanding of social media’s role in society, recognizing that through collaboration we can deepen our knowledge, share ideas and inspire each other to take full advantage of the opportunities in front of us. Twice a year, we open up a space where thousands of individuals and organizations can work together to share ideas and information through panels, workshops, talks and industry networking events, with millions more connecting online, through mobile and social media. We do this so that together we can advance our understanding of the role and impact of social media in our lives.
We’ve partnered with Global Headline Sponsor Nokia to help make this possible. Ranked among the top four brands in social engagement and one of the top 50 branded Facebook pages, Nokia is well positioned to drive Social Media Week. And they’ve shown this.
This past February, Nokia redefined how brands can get great value out of supporting Social Media Week, giving more opportunities than ever before for you to take an active role and have fun during the week. From secret rooms and magic shows at New York’s Opening Party to taxi rides in London to special surprises to the Amazing Everyday Photo Hunt in Singapore, Nokia made Social Media Week amazing for many participants. We’ve continued this trend as we lead up to September, making a lasting impact by sending 25 youth to Summer Tech Camp and continuing giveaways and fun ways to get involved.

And we’ll be seeing more of that. We think you’ll be surprised at all we’re doing together with Nokia. Helping us expand to 14 cities globally this year, adding Shanghai, Seoul, Torino, and Barcelona, we’re excited for some significant enhancements to the SMW experience. A revamped schedule is already available and an improved mobile app will be ready for download starting August 28th. Both giving you a better experience and making it easier to keep up on the go.
But don’t think we stopped there. Our teams in London, Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Jeddah, and Barcelona have teamed up with local Nokia markets to create some amazing experiences for you there. We’re looking forward to the next 6 weeks as we unveil the various ways you can participate with us and them, including our just unveiled fashion competition with StyleSaint and more image contests.
