September 24 has been a great day for Social Media Week–we kicked off #SMW12 September and we officially launched the School of Emerging Media & Technology, in partnership with Skillshare.
Building off our global network of information sharing in SMW, the School is a year-round education initiative that aims at empowering professionals to embrace emerging media and technology and acquire the skills to survive and thrive in a world of rapid change.
We’re excited to see the School come to life. To celebrate this launch, Social Media Week is offering you the chance to win one of three free scholarships available for any class or course if you enroll now between September 24-28. The Scholarship will grant a student with free access to all classes and courses until the end of 2012. Simply visit the School page on Skillshare, browse available classes and courses and enroll before Friday 28th at midnight to enter into a chance to win.
With an initial line-up of over 20 courses across the USA, the school’s founding teachers are some of the country’s leading experts in the field of emerging media and tech, addressing topics that range from social media marketing, to content strategy, UX design, coding, data, legal and more. Founding teachers include James Cooper, former Chief Innovation Officer at JWT, Buzzfeed’s President and COO Jon Steinberg, Will Allen from Behance, charity: water’s Paull Young and Meetup.com’s General Counsel David Pashman. See the complete list of our teachers here.
All of our classes are hosted on the Skillshare platform and range from in-person classes in several cities around the US to online-offline “Hybrid Courses,” to which students can enroll from anywhere in the world. Embracing Skillshare’s philosophy that education should be open and accessible to anyone, anywhere makes Skillshare the perfect partner for us to accomplish our mission to empower professionals to improve their careers.
As VP of Digital at American Express OPEN, Scott Roen, explains “Social Media is the quintessential skill that is easy to learn, but hard to master. Providing access to social media leaders should be a fantastic benefit to professionals in this space.”
If you live in the US, sign up for classes and get involved!
