Businesses now rise and fall with the online review. These reviews can be related to your product, service, interactions and atmosphere- or as Scott Van Duzer has shown us, it can be for anything at all. This week business owner Scott Van Duzer found himself in an interesting situation when the President of the US visited his pizza shop, Big Apple Pizza, and Van Duzer embraced him.
At first, the world enjoyed the images; a small business owner giving the POTUS a bear hug and lifting him off the ground.
Then the backlash started, and the Big Apple Pizza Yelp page was caught it in it all. Using the power of the review, people with opposing political reviews descended upon his page leaving 1-star reviews based only upon this difference. As word of this spread, supporters took to the task as well, leaving 5-star reviews. He received more than 400 reviews during this time, prompting Yelp to take some action.
All of this showing, a review is power.
