Powered by our global partner Nokia, last week’s SMW12 was one of our best to date. With nearly 1,000 events in 13 cities around the globe, 30,000 of you came out to join us last week and over 300,000 connected online.

Joining us to explore the social, cultural and economic impact of social media, were Actor and Rapper Nick Cannon who shared his struggle with lupus with TV legend Larry King; Etsy’s Head of Germany, Caroline Drucker who keynoted and talked about women in tech; Google’s Bridgette Sexton who spoke in Chicago; with world renowned rapper Big Boi & R&B sensation Janelle Monáe performing live in LA; USA coach and football legend Jurgen Klinsmann joining Warren Barton to talk Soccer & Tech; with Facebook and Google Campus hosting multiple days of events in London; Juventus, the Chicago White Sox and LA Kings leading events; and Ambassador H.E. Sitona Abdalla Osman addressing the Berlin audience talking about how social media is moving South Sudan forward.

In Europe, Italian band Garden of Alibis embarked on five-city tour of SMW; Eat St. invited Chicago, LA, London and Vancouver to battle it out for top honors of top foodie city; Hong Kong challenged you to represent it best in image; Berlin & Chicago hosted a silent house party; you made 4 of our cities trending topics on Twitter; and to wrap up the week one of the people behind the infamous Old Spice social media campaign, Dean McBeth, proposed to his girlfriend at the closing event in Bogotá.

All in all, it was a great week, and we owe a big thank you to you, our Local City Organizers, their teams, volunteers and local sponsors for helping make SMW12 what it was. We can’t forget to thank our global headline partner, Nokia, and our media partners, the FT, Econsultancy and The Next Web.
