Facebook announced that on April 12th, Instant Articles will be available to any publisher in the world, of ay size. Instant Articles are pieces of content that live entirely on Facebook. If you click an Instant Article (represented by a small lightning bolt icon in the top right of the featured image), you can view the article without the need to load publisher’s website.

Instant Articles are designed to provide publishers a faster, more interactive, customizable, and simple way to share their articles with readers on Facebook.

Since Facebook tested the feature with a small group of publishers, there has been a combination of proponents and critics of Instant Articles. Some say Facebook will allow publishers to make more money off Instant Articles with ads seamlessly integrated into the experience, and the functionality for users becomes much smoother.

Others believe Instant Articles only favor Facebook because they’ll retain users by eliminating the need to load web pages on other sites that normally would drive frustrated users off the app.

Our goal from the beginning was to open up Instant Articles to all publishers and we’re excited to be able to do that in a way that makes it fast and easy for all publishers to reach their audiences on Facebook. Opening up Instant Articles will allow publisher to tell great stories that load quickly to people all over the world. With Instant Articles, they can do this while retaining control over the experience, their ads, and their data.” – Facebook’s Product Manager, John Roberts

Facebook encourages publishers interested in Instant Articles to review the company’s guidelines, which provides details on how the program works, the structure of the format, and how it can be used to publish directly to Facebook News Feed in preparation for April’s global launch.
