Social Buzz Awards (SMW Glasgow)
Social Buzz Awards are launching to celebrate and reward the best in social media communications in the UK and will recognise the individuals, companies and organisations who are transforming the use of online to communicate with people in new and innovative ways. The judging is set to take place in Glasgow as part of Social Media Week Glasgow. The list of judges includes well known names from Google, Tesco, and BBC.
Improvised Innovation: The Second City and The Chicago Tribune (SMW Chicago)
A 150 plus year old powerhouse newspaper and a 50 plus year old legendary comedy institution wouldn’t seem to have much in common, but a closer look at the two companies and their unique partnership provide a fascinating look at how the landscape of new media has fostered unprecedented collaborations and innovation.
Journalism In the Age of the Tweet (SMW Chicago)
How do journalists deliver news via Social Media? How do the advantages and restrictions of Social Media change the shape of Journalism? Can you be a journalist that is distinguishable from “citizen journalism”?
Panelists will include Trib Nation Manager James Janega, Time Out Chicago President and Editor in Chief Frank Sennett, and others. Chicago Tribune VP of Digital Bill Adee will moderate this session at the Tribune Tower
Berlin Election: Who won the social media election? (SMW Berlin)
The Berlin city-state elections will be held on September 18. On September 19 Social Media Week will assemble a panel of experts to analyze the impact of social media on the vote. Did any issues arise via social media? Did any candidate use it well, or badly? Was it an influence at all, and if not, why not? What does the pattern of social media use in the Berlin election tell us about the forthcoming federal election in 2012? Supported by Projekt Zukunft.
Traveling Inside of Innovation (SMW Milan)
A whole train (11 couches, 600 people) will go from Rome to Milan as a traveling “innovation lab”, a unique experience at 300 km per hour. Attendees will have a chance to meet experts, investors and digital media with the Speed Business formula (15 min turnover). Upon arriving at the Press Conference in the Royal Room at the Central Station in Milan and the first Italian Digital Mission. Sponsored by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (national railway company). An author, entrepreneur, speaker, and worldwide connector, Peter Shankman is recognized worldwide for radically new ways of thinking about Social Media, PR, marketing, advertising, and customer service. Peter is best known for founding Help A Reporter Out (HARO), which in under a year became the de-facto standard for thousands of journalists looking for sources on deadline. His conference during the Social Media Week Bogotá will explain how social media cannot be conceived without an strategy behind it and how it has to be done together with traditional media in order to be successful.

How to Plan, Organize and Succeed In Social Media as a Brand and Crown Corporation (SMW Vancouver)
VIA Rail Canada will host a panel discussion on September 19th at the historic Vancouver Station to discuss the various elements of social media strategy, planning and communications, based on their experiences as a crown corporation and national brand. The panel will consist of those who are responsible for social media at VIA Rail, as well as well known social media influencers from Quebec and Ontario. VIA will also share recent results from a national social media initiative that will have taken place only hours before the panel begins.
Women on the Web: Do Entrepreneurial Opportunities Exist For Them on the Net? (SMW Buenos Aires)
A session with a specific target: entrepreneurs. In this talk Marina Ponzi, who has worked several years in the field of technological entrepreneurship from a gender perspective, looks at the map of opportunities, needs and challenges facing women entrepreneurs in the social media world.
Social Media for Social Good (SMW Los Angeles)
Social media is essential for bringing like-minded people together online and offline to connect communities and create social and political change. This session will explore several successful strategies to build real-world connections and impact using social media strategies. We\’ll look at the risks, challenges, and opportunities of moving discussions and interactions from the digital to the real world, and talk about how to manage both concurrently. We\’ll have case studies from politics (Strategic Productions), social value business (Neighborgoods,net), and a nonprofit advocacy group (Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy).
