August 1, 2011 – Chicago, IL – Social Media Week Chicago organizers Zόcalo Group and Chicago Tribune are inviting all business, brands, not-for-profits, government agencies, trade associations, academics and individuals to join them in creating a dynamic and memorable week of discussion and interaction on social media, mobile and word of mouth marketing. Social Media Week is a global initiative that will connect 12 cities for one week on topics important to advancing, educating and inspiring innovation for social media.

Are you an entrepreneur or small business trying to understand how social media can help launch your idea or grow your business? Social Media Week Chicago is offering five content hubs under which many different types of events can be programmed; Business and Brands, Government and Social Policy, Entertainment and Gaming, Learning and Education and Technology and Innovation. Venues for each content area will be provided so those interested in sponsoring an event can do so in one of these locations or identify a venue of their choosing. Secured hub venues to date include the Chicago Tribune (Business and Brands), CDW (Technology and Innovation) and Tribeca Flashpoint Academy (Entertainment and Gaming). One of the unique aspects of Social Media Week is that in addition to more than 20 events which will be put on by event organizers and its advisory board, which includes Dell, Groupon, Google, Facebook, Motorola, Northwestern University, Rockit Ranch Productions and The Second City, to name a few, there is an open invitation to the community to submit and organize events that will be promoted as part of the Social Media Week Chicago.

Far more than a conference, Social Media Week offers a global perspective on emerging trends in social and mobile marketing. The event will take place at various locations across Chicago from September 19-23. Along with Social Media Week activities in Chicago, simultaneous events will take place in Beirut, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Glasgow, Los Angeles, Milan, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Vancouver.
