It is always a great pleasure to work with our good friends at the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) and we are looking forward to having some events there again this year as part of Social Media Week. So it was great to hear about about a crowdsourcing project they are running to capture the cinema history of Glasgow. Carolyn Mills of the GFT shares some information in this guest blog. Oh and by the way – if you didnt know this already the GFT is the best cinema in the world!
Back in Glasgow’s cinema-going heyday, Glaswegians went to the cinema more often than anyone else in the world. GFT want to record this filmic history of the city from 1910, when the first cinema was built in Glasgow, right up to the present day.
GFT want to hear from you!
GFT are keen to hear your memories of Glasgow as a city of film – trips to the cinema as a child, or as an adult, being an extra in a production, or spotting famous faces around the city… What films were memorable? What made the experience special? Any memory is valid, whether very recent or from many moons ago, long or short. Then they’ll collate your stories in an online ‘memory engine’ on the new Cinema City website.
