GFT is getting on the act with an afternoon of talks offering a film-centric slant on current debates in social media.
We kick off at 14.00 with a presentation from Ben Kempas at the Scottish Documentary Institute and Nic Wistreich from Netribution who’ll look at the impact of social media on traditional filmmaking, distribution and marketing. They’ll discuss both the development of the Virtuous Circle, a new strategy for audience engagement across various documentary projects, and an associated project which will create a complete set of open source tools for the full filmmaking and distribution process. At 14.45, we’ll hear from Blipfoto founder and CEO Joe Tree, who’ll reveal how and why the site has attracted such a unique community, the values that lie at its core, the new relationships it nurtures between users, and how participation online bleeds back into the real world. 7 pm A Practical Guide to Crowdsourcing A Startup Malmaison Hotel
In this talk Morna Simpson (CEO) and Andy Cobley (CTO) will give a practical guide to CrowdSourcing a startup using this model that draws on well known events such as hack-days and game jams and methods from Design Innovation. The SweatShops were very much a learning curve for everyone involved. She will talk about what went wrong as well as all the things that went right!
