Hong Kong

Five Questions With The Social Media Week Hong Kong Team 有關SMWHK 團隊的5個問題

1. Please tell us a bit about your company.

impactasia is an Asia Pacific based regional and independent PR agency with offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore.  We offer traditional + digital PR and event solutions to our clients and our core business sectors include travel and tourism, property, FMCG, arts and culture, professional services, education and luxury goods.

2. What are the three most exciting things happening in social and mobile media in your industry?

Social media is  a ffecting nearly every aspect of the PR industry.  Here are our thoughts on how this has impacted our work as PR consultants:

(1) The publishing industry is making strong moves into the digital space, which allows news to spread faster than ever before, changing the way we (and our clients) value online media outlets, the way news is broken and the pace at which that news gathers momentum.

(2) The abundance of social media allows us to take on a more active role in the conversations our target audiences are having.  We are able to more quickly gauge opinions on a certain piece of news, the launch of a new product or the response of a spokesperson, and are able to immediately join in on those conversations as they take place and really tailor plans based on this two way communication.

(3) As Hong Kong is often considered the gateway between China and the West, the city is adapting to both ‘sides’ of the social media spectrum.  Not only are we seeing a growing popularity among global platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, but China platforms such as RenRen and Weibo are showing equally compelling growth and reach. Understanding the differences between social media platforms in China and those in the rest of the world is key to understanding Hong Kong‘s digital landscape.

4 What were your reasons for wanting to bring Social Media Week to your city?

Many conversations have been taking place in Hong Kong around social media for a long time, and Social Media Week has allowed us the opportunity to creatively bring those conversations (across all sectors and all groups of people) together.  We are delighted to be able to bring this platform to the city to raise the global profile of this dynamic (and rapidly growing) Hong Kong scene.  It’s a great opportunity to connect people who are meeting each other online in an offline environment.

5 What three things are you hoping to gain from hosting Social Media Week?

With Social media Week Hong Kong, we hope to (1) unite conversations about social media with an engaging bilingual (English and Cantonese) event programme, (2) share insights on the digital scene in China and social media hotspots around the world, and (3) find new and inventive ways to engage this emerging media  in our every day business life.
