Social Media Week is a leading media platform and event with global reach across five continents, including Africa, North America, South America, Europe and Asia that explores the social, cultural and economic impact of social media. Twice a year (in February and September) the week long conference and festival is held in multiple cities across the globe simultaneously. Our mission is to help people and organizations connect through collaboration, learning and the sharing of ideas and information.
Social Media Week celebrates it’s 6th year! Social Media Week is significant because it brings together thought leaders, key stakeholders and the general public to explore issues that are important for the modern world. Annually over 65,000 people attend the global conference. This year alone SMW garnered over 5,000 press mentions with over 1 million people viewing SMW content via the internet.
In February 2013 Lagos, Nigeria joined the Social Media Week Community as the first African city to host the event. Along side ten other cities including Hamburg, Milan, New York, Singapore, and Tokyo, Social Media Week Lagos Made History!
SMW Lagos is only in it’s 2nd year and has already claimed its place as the largest, tech, new media and business conference on the continent of Africa. It attracts some of the continents most forward thinkers, brands, learners and creators. With a population of over 20M Lagos is the largest black city in the world and is arguably the epicenter of the continent and home to the powerhouses of Africa’s creative, business and tech communities. Recognizing the importance of a connected continent, while aiming to encourage collaboration, our 2014 conference them is: A CONNECTED AFRICA IS THE FUTURE.
The only event of it’s kind, Social Media Week Lagos is a world class conference with Africa’s brightest minds that is free and open to the public. SMW Lagos is also unique in that 70% of the weeks amazing panels, parties and workshops are organized by the public. From October thru December, Social Media Week holds a world wide open call for people and companies big and small to pitch ideas and develop content that aims to push boundaries, create fresh insight and serve the greater good.
With attendees from across Africa and around the world, SMW Lagos explores a wide range of topics including education, business, entertainment, technology, art, banking and politics.
