Drupal and Doughnuts
Friday morning sees a bunch of coffee-morning style gatherings for social media types across London, from Tuttle at Centre for Creative Collaboration to The 1000heads Social Media Week Digest at the ICA.
To this line-up, we’re delighted to add Drupal for Doughnuts, that’s not a challenge, but a discussion hosted by the folks at FreshNetworks to meet and chat about the open source CMS Drupal and it’s increasing popularity as a social media platform.
Here’s some more info from the hosts:
“Doughnuts for Drupal” – Drupal for social media
As part of social media week, FreshNetworks will be hosting “Doughnuts for Drupal” – a free, informal breakfast discussion about using Drupal as a social media platform.
If you’re a Drupal programmer, developer, blogger or enthusiast (or a “Drupalite” as we like to say) then pop along and join in the Drupal fun. Free coffee and doughnuts will be served from 8.30am on Friday 5th February at our offices in High Holborn, London.
Charlie Osmond, our MD, will give a quick introduction to the session at 9.00am followed by an open discussion about Drupal. James Andre and Marcus Deglos, our very own “Drupalites”, will also be on hand to answer questions.
The gathering is also the unofficial launch of the London Drupal Hub. With several Drupalites on board already, we have the basis for a hub of Drupal activity, knowledge sharing and best practice right here in our central London offices.
To register your interest, or for more information about the meetup please email jo.stratmann@freshnetworks.com or call us on 0207 692 4376.

Official Tags for SMW London – Flickr & Twitter
As the events start to unfold they’re being crowd-documented, or crowdumented, if you like. As well as a bunch of handy mobile tools, we blogged about earlier, there’s also a FlickR group for photos.
Social Media Week London Flickr Group
Please add your photos to the group. Handily, it’s called Social Media Week London, which hopefully will make it easy to find.

And for the Twittered masses, please use the hastag #smwldn for your SMW London-related tweetage. Thanks.
Tools for Social Media Week: Sched, HotPotato & Pegshot
And so it begins…MediaCamp London is already underway with 25 other events to follow (there’s still a few places at some).
To help navigate and record your time at SMW London events, the folks coordinating in New York (waves to Toby, Lauren & crew), there’s some useful iPhone apps to manage your schedule, aggregate Twitter/FlickR activity and ge-locate pictures as you take them.
We’ve already blogged about Sched, which makes it easy to navigate the week’s schedule of events with live updating, here’s some more info about HotPotato and Pegshot:
Pegshot is an iPhone application that allows you to instantly share images and videos with the people that you care about. For Social Media Week, they are going to geo-tag every single event across all six cities. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you will
be able to check into a SMW event and then take pictures or videos and share with your Twitter followers or Facebook friends and they will instantly know where you are and which events you’re attending.

Download Android version here »
Hot Potato is another iPhone app that is focused on making it easy to connect audiences around live events as they’re happening. They provide the Hot Potato iPhone app and Web interface for sharing the experience of a live event with a
friends and other interested people (attending, watching, or just following along). It will be great for Social Media Week events as it will combine commentary and photos generated by the audience on Hot Potato (and can import tweets from twitter as
well) and organize the real time stream of people and interaction around your event. Again, they will geo-tag every event, so all you need to do is download the app.
Measuring Up, Social Media Week London Metric Challenge
The cat’s been set amongst the pigeons. The gauntlet’s down. Suppliers, stand by your tools. The London Social Media Week Measurement Challenge is on.
People are monitoring their social engagement in as many different ways as there are people: formally, informally, using power tools or simply browsing.
But for anyone interested in social media professionally, from fundraising through to stock watching, what’s out there to help? Which tools are measuring which kinds of interactions?
To help curious community engagement officers and prying PR folk, marketing mavericks and other enquiring minds, a challenge has been laid down to suppliers of software or measurement analytics. They are challenged to set up their social media measurement tool to its maximum capability and monitor and measure the traffic and comments around London Social Media Week.
For suppliers sharing their knowledge at the Social Media Measurement Event on Friday, February 5, this will help people attending to understand and compare a product’s capabilities at a glance.
Different people will be looking for different things – whilst some will be looking to see holes in their programmes, others will be seeking budget justification for the board – so suppliers need have no fear of the comparisons.
Meanwhile we’ll all be watching with baited breath as the Titans clash to show us what they can do. Check out the website for more info »

Crushing It: Social Media Week Storytelling
New comedy series, CRUSHING IT: An Internet Love Story, uses social media on air and behind the scenes for a new way of telling stories.
CRUSHING IT gives audiences a unique chance to participate with their favourite characters when it unfolds in real time, which is possible because behind every character is a living writer-performer who is interacting with the audience as well as the other scripted characters. Writers and characters are based in three of the six SMW cities, London, Toronto and New York.
BBC Radio 4 Tweetup Added to SMW London Line-up
And you thought the schedule was complete? We did.
Then the folks at BBC blogs got in touch to let us know that Auntie’s home service (that’s Radio 4 to anyone under 60) is organising a Radio 4 Tweetup (#R4Tweetup) on Thu (4th Feb at 7.30pm) during Social Media Week.
Steve Bowbrick, R4′s blog supremo, writes:
We’ve decided to chip into the programme of activity in London with a Radio 4 tweetup (that’s a Twitter meetup, an informal gathering organised on Twitter) on Thursday 4 February at 1930 in the vicinity of Broadcasting House, Radio 4′s central London home. It’s open to all Radio 4 listeners and there’s no programme of activity, no speakers and no turns. There’s also no charge. It’s not an official event, just an opportunity for Radio 4 listeners to gather in one place and take refreshment.
You’ll find info about the tweetup and a free tour of BBC Broadcasting House that’s open to 20 or so people on the Radio 4 blog. Drop Steve a line for more info and to secure a place. It sounds like a great opportunity to have a look round the Beeb’s London HQ:
The tour, provisionally, includes: an overview of Broadcasting House and the huge new BBC development that’s going up next door, the Art Deco Reception Area, The Radio Theatre, the ‘Artists’ Lobby’, Lord Reith’s Council Chamber, the 7th floor balcony overlooking Regents Street and, depending on whether they’re in use or not, a visit to a studio. Afterwards we’ll go to the tweetup venue and talk Radio 4 and social media into the small hours (or whatever).
Steve’s also working with the team at Radio 5 Live who will be publishing videos of their presenters talking about social media and how they’re using it. We’ll pop them up here, as well.

Managing Social Media Week London Schedule
23 events all over London, but how on earth to keep track of where you’re supposed to be and when. Fortunately, one of Social Media Week’s app partners, the lovely folks at Sched have “an app for that”.
The eagle-eyed amonst you will have already noticed the website schedule is also powered by Sched. The iPhone version provides a palm-sized version which will help you build your own schedule, find venues and get live updates as the schedule gets updated.
Did we mention it’s free? And available from iTunes.
