Behind the hype, the ‘social’ in social media is having an enormous impact on day-to-day life. It’s not just about tracking friends on Facebook, businesses are using social media to connect with their customers, passionate individuals are using it to influence policy, creators are sharing their content with a global market space.
Now in its fourth year, the next series of Social Media Week (24th -28th September 2012) will take place simultaneously across cities around the world including Berlin, Bogota, Chicago, Glasgow, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, and Vancouver, providing a truly global perspective.
We love conferences but felt there could be a much better way of enabling conversation and collaboration than traditional conferences allow. We want to put the ‘social’ back into social media!
This unique take on the traditional format creates a rich, interactive and beneficial set of experiences for everyone who participates whether attending an event, speaking, joining a panel, volunteering or supporting the events as a sponsor.
Unlike many events we aim for access to events programming and content to be as open as possible, and the events are almost exclusively free to attend, thanks to the generous support from our sponsors.
Led by Chinwag, SMWLDN February 2012 included 178 events, 8 designed by Chinwag and a whopping 170 created and delivered with love by our 97 event partners including Nokia, Google, Ogilvy, Constant Contact, BBC, Channel 4, iCrossing, We Are Social, Edelman, Buddy Media and many more.
Over 15 000 tickets were snapped up and over 10 000 online viewers watched livestreams. The week saw over 102 400 000 social impressions with Social Media Week London (#smwldn) trending every day on Twitter surfing the wave of tweets across all the events.
The topics covered ranged across a large selection of industries from music, games, mobile, public sector, broadcast, charity, museums & galleries, sport, radio, business, recruitment, journalism and theatre.
The response to the event was overwhelmingly positive with many of the events over-subscribed. We came away inspired and determined to make Social Media Week London 2012 even better!
The audience for Social Media Week London runs the whole gamut of social media users and professionals, from engaged consumers through to corporates, brands and their agencies including creative, technical, social media and recruitment.
Last year’s delegates came from a wide range of sectors, reflecting the impact of social media, with digital media, media, games, mobile, ecommerce and IT particularly well represented.
The sheer diversity of events throughout the week brings to life the idea of collaborating, connecting and contributing, whether presenting at a session, a treasure hunt, asking questions at a panel, engaging in a tweet-up or networking. The themes help bring together different topics, with events at all levels from novice to expert.
The aim is for our advisors, speakers, sponsors, event partners and attendees to walk away from the Social Media Week experience enlivened, connected and getting real value from the events.
Chinwag is looking to partner with key individuals and companies as speakers, sponsors, event hosts, or simply people with great ideas to make London’s week the best one globally!
