Los Angeles

conference

75 events, 5 days, 470 sq. miles. Where to go?

We’ve made it easy for you: Starting Tomorrow and continuing through Friday, go to as many panels, parties, keynotes and screenings as you can muster.  For those you can’t get to: You can view the Live Broadcast online of all the Social Media Week Hub programs, via Livestream.
It’s easy to register – just view the full list of events and select the one’s you’ll be attending. It costs nothing. Many sessions are approaching or have reached capacity.
As a further convenience, SMW LA’s advisor board has curated events into 3 major tracks – each of which could be it’s own major conference: (more…)

Why Social Media Week and Why Los Angeles?

We keep asking ourselves why we’re doing this conference and how the unique flavor of Los Angeles will shape it.  As a distributed conference, we are not trying to control the agendas, but rather provide the platform for conversations. Here are some thoughts about what is guiding our thinking and what we’re hoping will influence the events.

Social Media Matters.

After language and writing, social media represents the next great wave in human communication and relationship.  It is truly the manifestation of the universal web.

Social Media Week Los Angeles will reflect what makes this city unique. LA is a Community of Communities. From entertainment to technology to the school system in crisis, Los Angeles is a network of diverse communities facing unique challenges. Our vision is to do more than talk about social media itself, but use this conference platform to help solve complex problems and achieve concrete goals. To this end, we will help not only amplify conversations within, but between communities, locally and globally, in the corporate, public and non-profit sectors.

Los Angeles is driven by a creative industry, yet it is facing a “creativity crisis,” with, for example, funding for the arts in eduction being cut dramatically. With unique events at iconic locations around the city, Social Media Week will influence and amplify the conversations about the extraordinary importance of innovation and creativity in all areas.

…Of course, we want to have some fun too. Food trucks, parties, performances…this will not all be talking heads.
