Two-hundred billion is grossed by the fast food industry annually. The average yearly salary of a fast food worker in New York City is $11,000, while most fast food CEO’s make on average $25,000 a day.
In November 2012, the Fast Food Forward movement staged a walkout of fast food workers demanding better pay and the right to unionize. Fast Food Forward – coordinated by grassroots groups and leading labor organizers and recently named number 11 on The Huffington Post’s “Top 25 Progressive Wins in 2012″- is a movement mobilizing NYC fast food workers to raise wages and gain rights at work. This movement joins the growing national momentum of Black Friday strikes and other low-wage worker struggles fighting for a better future in America.
Beginning with a presentation on lessons learned from November’s walkout, leading labor activists and Purpose will host a fast-paced hackathon of organizers, tech geeks, and creatives to ideate future Fast Food Forward campaign actions that will help drive this movement forward.
