IDEO’s Humanizing Social Media

Imagine a world with no Facebook, LinkedIn, or text messaging.

Imagine learning about someone by sitting down with them and talking face-to-face.

Imagine no one being able to find information about you beyond the White Pages.

It was like this not that many years back, so why does it seem like such a foreign concept? What began as a way to connect people through technology has had the effect of sterilizing human communication and leading to social media offerings that can be shallow.

As people grapple for meaning in an increasingly connected world, how can we bring the “human” back into social media? IDEO has created an environment where we will play  with the idea of social connection in its most basic, human form, yet still within the context of today’s methods of communication.
