Let’s just admit it, we’re crazy about social media. We tweet our breakfast and check-in on the bus while simultaneously Pinning that new pair of Gucci boots and commenting anywhere we can find. We eat, breath and sleep social media all day, every day.
But do you ever feel like your commenting, tweeting, hashtagging, Liking, and checking has gotten… dare I say… repetitive? *Gasp!* We don’t like to admit it, but sometimes we need a little-something to bring that spark back to our social media relationship. How about tweeting with an Astronaut? Playing in a Twitter-wide gameshow? Directing an improv actor through the web? Well don’t worry, because #SMWWDC has all of that.
As part of Social Media Week, NASA will hold a Tweetup with Astronaut Ron Garan at 1:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Feb. 14. The event will take place in the James E. Webb Memorial Auditorium at NASA Headquarters, 300 E St. SW, Washington. This NASA Tweetup is an opportunity to meet and speak with Garan, the people behind @NASA account and other space-exploration-minded participants. Space is limited and registration is required. Registration opens at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20 and closes at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24. NASA will accommodate a total of 150 tweeps and their guests randomly selected from those who sign up on the Web. NASA also will place some registrants on a waiting list. The event will also be streamed on NASA TV.

An improv game where participants via twitter add color, suggestions and commentary throughout an improv performance. The players will react to the suggestions delivered via tweets and text messages to the player’s phones and to the screens behind the players. The event will be livestreamed and recorded. This event is meant to be a fun, playful and comedic experiment. We hope to come away with some real lessons of how improv can help social media, and vice-versa.
