You are cordially invited to tour the Digital Disaster Operations Center (AKA DigiDoc) at the American Red Cross and learn how this new platform that leverages innovations in social media is integrated in the overall disaster operations of ARC.

Guests will also receive an introduction to ARC’s digial volunteers program that aims to build a nationwide group of online volunteers who will be trained to engage directly with the public during emergencies by spotting trends, collecting situational information and passing that knowledge back to the DigiDoc. Those interested, will receive instructions on how to apply and be trained as digital volunteers.

What is Digital Operations Center?

Modeled after Dell’s Social Media Command Center, the Digital Operations Center was built in partnership with Dell and Radian6 to give the public a seat at the table of disaster operations. The public is a vital participant in emergency response and recovery. They often are the first responders to their own neighbors, and they can provide valuable information to the American Red Cross (ARC) and other response agencies. ARC’s goal is to be informed by and to become a social liaison for people, families, and communities to support one another before, during, and after disasters. The Digital Operations Center enhances ARC’s information about disaster situations, enables it to better anticipate disaster needs, and helps ARC connect people with the resources they need during an emergencies.

Please note this event is limited to 25 guests and will be honored on a first come, first serve basis. Government issue picture ID is required for entry to ARC facilities.
