Futbol, Football, & the Olympics: SMW12 & Sports

Social Media Week

Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas and insights into social media and technology's impact on business, society, and culture.

50 days until 20,000+ global leaders come together for SMW November Conference. Learn more.

Sports fanatics span the globe, pouring their passion into local, national and club teams. With the rise of social media, sport events are no longer contained to watching in person or on the screen. Athletes are taking to Twitter; fan clubs are active on Facebook and all play out the action on and off the fields.

Given this, this September’s Social Media Week is proving to have more opportunities for sports fans to get involved. With everything from pro skateboarder Steve Barra to Juventus FC, we want you to share your sporting passion. And we’re not stopping with events.

In partnership with the Chicago White Sox, we want you to cast your votes for your favorite highlights from the 2012 regular season.

And if football/soccer is more your passion, then the Scottish Women’s Football team is looking for you. To raise awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer and the benefits of regular exercise, in conjunction with Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Scottish Women’s Football will create a video which links up as many football fans and players around the world as possible by seeing them pass on a ball to each other. All you have to do is ask someone to film you highlighting your footie skills, and the resulting film will be shown during the One Goal event in Glasgow.

With all this activity, you don’t want to be left out. Check out our favorite sports-related events and register today.
