#PicYourCity: Show Us How Your City Inspires You (for a chance to win a trip to SMW)
Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas and insights into social media and technology's impact on business, society, and culture.
Social Media Week has grown at an incredible rate over the past four years, hosting conferences in more than 26 cities around the world. In honor of the global nature of SMW, for September SMW12, we launched Instagram Your City, an online competition asking you to show us our host cities through your eyes. More than 10,000 photos were submitted.
We loved it so much- we’re doing it again. This time though, and in the spirit of our global theme we want to open it up to everyone. To celebrate our next global event powered by Nokia this coming February, we are asking you to #PicYourCity. We want to see you using tools like Nokia Creative Studio, Lightbox, Hipster, Instagram and StreamZoo (or none at all!) to showcase the uniqueness of our 10 host cities.
There are a few other changes – this go round, we’re looking more for unique perspectives of iconic aspects of New York, Paris, Copenhagen, Lagos, Hamburg, Miami, DC, Singapore, Tokyo, and Milan. We’re also looking to see how our global theme of Open & Connected: Principles for a Collaborative World is incorporated.
The best image overall will get the opportunity to travel to experience SMW13 February in the host city of their choice, and each of the 10 city finalists will win a Nokia Lumia 920 with PureView imaging!
Submitting is incredibly easy:
1. Take a picture: Using any smartphone device, take a photo that captures the uniqueness and heart of one of the 10 host cities for Social Media Week.
(Note: To qualify, photos must be taken with a mobile phone and must be of one of the 10 participating cities: New York, Paris, Copenhagen, Lagos, Hamburg, Miami, DC, Singapore, Tokyo, and Milan.)
2. Add a filter: Using any social photography platform, such as Instagram, Hipstamatic, Nokia Creative Studio, StreamZoo, or Lightbox, make your photo stand out. While a filter isn’t necessary to enter, it does make it more fun!
3. Tag & Share: Using #PicYourCity, share on Twitter with the city you’re capturing. For example, “Just submitted my entry to @SocialMediaWeek’s #PicYourCity for NYC!”
(Note: To qualify, photos must be tweeted with the hashtag #PicYourCity.)
There’s no limit to the number of entries you can submit, so get creative! With some additional swag from our partners Stickygram, Casetagram and more, we can’t wait to see how February compares to September.
