9 Slack + GIPHY Easter Eggs to Impress Your Co-Workers
For all those GIFs you send via Slack and GIPHY, did you know there are at least nine Easter Eggs to step up your GIF game and impress your co-workers?
If you use Slack, you probably use some of the integrations from third parties. Sure, there are impressive integrations and tools such as Trello, Salesforce, MailChimp and countless others, but chances are the one you use the most is from GIPHY.
By typing “/giphy [text goes here]” and sending that to a colleague or channel, a random GIF from Giphy’s extensive library of content will appear, relating to your word or phrase. It’s the roulette of sending GIFs because you don’t really know what will happen, which adds to the allure.
For all those GIFs you send via Slack and GIPHY, did you know there are at least nine Easter Eggs to step up your GIF game and impress your co-workers? Here are the nine that GIPHY listed in their blog post. We can’t wait to use these.
1. Weather (get the weather in any zip code or city)
“/giphy #weather YOUR ZIP CODE OR CITY NAME”
2. Echo (GIPHY will “echo” your thoughts in text form)
“/giphy #echo WHATEVER PHRASE YOU WANT!”
3. Dealwithit! (Add the Dealwithit! sunglasses to any face within a GIF or photo)
“/giphy #dealwithit ANY MEDIA LINK WITH A FACE!”
4. Caption (Write your own captions on GIFs)
“/giphy #caption “YOUR QUOTE HERE” GIF SEARCH TERM OR GIPHY GIF LINK”
5. Magic 8-Ball (Get answers to life’s questions from GIPHY Magic 8-Ball)
“/giphy #magic8ball QUESTION?”
6. Enhance (Zoom in on any face within a GIF or photo)
“/giphy #enhance ANY MEDIA LINK!”
7. Mashup (Mashup any GIF with sticker art)
“/giphy #mashup STICKER SEARCH TERM, GIPHY SEARCH TERM”
8. #1 (Select the first, often best GIF result in Slack)
“/giphy #1 SEARCH TERM!”
9. Ratings (Change your ratings so HR doesn’t hunt you down)
Let’s just say HR prevents you from having too much fun with GIPHY… make sure you change your ratings setting on Slack. To adjust this setting, go to my.slack.com/apps/manage and click on your configured Giphy app to open the app page.
Giphy at Social Media Week
At Social Media Week New York in early 2016, Giphy’s Chief Operating Officer, Adam Leibsohn, discussed GIFs as a branded language and future of advertising. You can read some highlights from that event here, or sign up for SMW Insider to watch the full video.
Adam is also returning to #SMWNYC this year to explore how search, communication, entertainment, information, advertising, and just about everything we do will be short, looping, and alive! Learn more about his #SMWNYC session, and register your pass today to attend this session in-person plus many others throughout the week.
