Social Media Week returns to Bristol this February 26 – March 2! Join this year’s event for talks and seminars across the city designed to upskill, inform, explore ideas and opportunities and further the conversation on key issues in media, marketing and technology.
Presented by multi award-winning, independent consultancy, AMBITIOUS PR, this year’s conference will bring together thought leaders and key players at the cutting edge of social media trends and also seek to facilitate collaboration with individuals, businesses and enterprises that have yet to fully realize the potential of social media.
We spoke with the organizers of SMW Bristol about the upcoming event, what sessions the team is most excited about, and what local trends they are seeing in their market.
What do you think will be the most important attendee takeaways from your city’s SMW conference?
Best practice in social data analysis and measurement and the implications of new image recognition technology, machine learning and AI in generating unparalleled consumer insight for brands and businesses
How to identify and work with influencers whether they are employees, micro influencers, bloggers or celebrities
How social is coming of age in a business to business context and the role of social selling
Social has hit its teenage years. Facebook is 18 and Twitter is 12 and like any adolescent, social is experiencing a period of change. Inspiration and practical advice to overcome fake news, filter bubbles, attention spans, algorithms, information overload and identity politics
What are some sessions that your team is excited about?
On February 27, we will have an afternoon dedicated to all things ‘influencer’ with ‘Digital influencer or celebrity ambassador?’ Presented by PRCA.
In the session, Analysing Social Media Imagery at Scale – An IKEA Case Study we will explore when, where and how consumers connect with Ikea, how this is evolving, and how customers share their brand experience.
Social media is growing up, and maybe these are its teenage years. Facebook is 14 years old. Twitter nearly 12. And like any adolescent, social is experiencing a period of change. At this event, four brilliant brains and speakers discuss some of the issues associated with social media’s adolescence, offering a mix of inspiration, practical advice and a little light relief to help our industry respond.
How do your overall agenda tie into this year’s global theme?
Our event programme is designed to foster collaboration between attendees and speakers/hosts. It also encourages attendees to connect on and offline and build their network. Our objective is to encourage the folks within our community to work “Closer” to build the profile of Bristol as a hub for the creative, digital and tech sector. Bristol is the second largest center for the creative industries in the UK after London and the most profitable per head.
Which partners or brands are you most excited to be working with this year?
Our community has embraced Social Media Week and we are lucky to have an incredible list of sponsors and partners. Here are a few examples:
Presenting partner, Business West helps businesses accelerate sales and boost profits through exports and aims to engage with and support SMEs to find new profitable customers in overseas markets. The sessions they are hosting help businesses understand how all of this is possible through social media which is really important given the UK’s current political climate.
Bristol has become a magnet for international creative companies in search of a European base. One such example is Social Media Week Bristol sponsor, Noble Studios which is a US-based digital marketing company which expanded internationally into the UK market in 2017. Recognising the creative, digital and tech excellence in Bristol, they opened their first European office here rather than London.
In terms of speakers, we are very excited to be welcoming IKEA to Bristol to discuss new image recognition technology that they have developed with local social media intelligence specialists, The Socialisers which generates unparalleled consumer insight.
What are some local trends you are seeing in your market?
Acceptance that success on social depends on the ability to keep on top of constant changes and that you need to be prepared to test ideas and put yourself out there. Your work is never done! That measurement and data analysis are core to getting boardroom buy-in and that every business/ organization can define what success looks like to them! There isn’t one set of success metrics!
If you work in digital marketing and social media your role is also one of ‘educator’ within an organization as you seek to support others to grow their knowledge. Social media professionals are stronger in their role when they share knowledge, tools, ideas and are prepared to collaborate within their community. Sector professionals seeking ways to embrace Bristol’s status as the UK’s leading smart city and benefit from the testbed of innovation from which the next wave of digital transformation is flowing
