Snapchat Adds Giphy Integration to Add More Oomph to Stories
Animated stickers are available now for iOS and Android users with tabs coming soon.
On the heels of a controversial redesign, Snapchat has announced a new integration with Giphy, the internet’s leading repository for animated GIFs.
As part of the partnership, users can now apply animated GIF stickers to their content—something very similar to what we saw Instagram launch just last month. The news comes just a few days following Snapchat’s long-awaited release of their own Insights tool for creators.
So, how does it work? GIFs can be added to a Snap by tapping the Sticker icon located in the top-right corner of your screen. This will trigger the Giphy library to appear, form which users can browse and pick from an exhaustive list of Giphy stickers or animated stickers provided by the Snap team. Manual searches can also be conducted by key phrases (see below).
Once applied, the GIF can be scaled by pinching the screen with your fingers. The images can also be moved and rotated for the purposes of “pinning” a sticker to a particular element of the post such as someone’s face or a backdrop. To do this, simply press and hold the sticker to the designated spot, and it will move, rotate, or scale accordingly. Multiple GIFs can be applied to a single post, Adweek confirms.
According to TechCrunch, this isn’t the only update the company has to share. A new feature in the form of a tab is coming to both the Friends and Discover sections of the platforms. Specifically, the update will allow users to more effectively navigate the copious amounts of content published to the platform on a daily basis.
“Once you receive the update, you’ll be able to sort things like Stories, Group Chats, and Subscriptions, allowing you to further customize your own experience on the app,” the company explained in a statement to Variety.
As reported by The Next Web, Giphy stickers are available now; however, tabs are expected to roll out for iOS and Android “in the next few weeks.”
