The democratization of the music industry has created new avenues for expression (and revenue) for a generation of artists whose talents extend across music and business. Now, more than ever, artists act as arbiters of culture and play a significant role in shaping the conversations and trends that make up mass culture.
One of the companies at the forefront of this trend is Genius, the world’s biggest collection of song lyrics and musical knowledge. Genius provides tangible value to consumers by offering contextual information around their favorite artists and songs, as well as unique partnerships that bring fans closer to the music they love.
At SMWLA, held June 12-14 in Santa Monica, Rob Markman, recording artist and Head of Artist Relations, and Jonathan Homan, VP of Brand Partnerships, will discuss the elevated role of music plays within pop culture and why brands should be paying attention.
Their session, entitled, “Beats & Brands: Why Music is Driving the Cultural Conversation,” will explore why music is core to cultural relevance and how Genius is teaming up with brands to bring fans closer to the music they love.
Genius recently partnered with Dropbox on an experiential activation called “Lyrics to Life,” which leaned on local artist to create immersive experiences inspired by the lyrics to their favorite songs from artists ranging from Tame Impala to Nicki Minaj. The live art experience was on display in Los Angeles earlier this month.
