The first ever Social Media Week Santo Domingo takes place September 10-14 with 30+ speakers representing brands like Taco Bell, Nestle, Universidad Iberoamericana – UNIBE, and Miami Ad School.

We spoke with their team about the upcoming event, what sessions they are most excited about, and some of the topics they will discuss during the week.

What do you think will be the most important attendee takeaways from your city’s SMW conference?

Our goal with this first edition of Social Media Week Santo Domingo is to make sure the attendees are able to leave the conference feeling that they were part of a global class event, learning about digital and social media trends and having had a networking platform opportunity. We’re very excited to be hosting SMWSD for the first time ever in Santo Domingo, providing young and skilled professionals the opportunity to interact with other professionals of their area and also letting them learn the different tools that are necessary in the social media industry.

What are some sessions that your team is excited about?

We’re really excited to have Buzzfeed’s Latino division: “Pero Like” joining us. The team will discuss the key factors that lead to viral content “The art of viral videos”. They have a big fan base here in the Dominican Republic amongst teens and young adults and they have done a great job of grasping Dominican and latino insights for their content.

Having Facebook’s SMB Partner Manager, Malena Velasco join us from Argentina is a great asset to this year’s #SMWSD. She’ll be giving a workshop about “Understanding Digital Facebook Ads”. We believe this workshop will be very helpful and will guide brands to make more effective ad investments.

We’re looking forward to have Google’s/ Youtube’s Global Video Specialist, Gabrielle Nouhra joining us from New York, who will discuss “The Unskippable Future of Advertising.”

How do your overall agenda tie into this year’s global theme?

Overall, we believe that the global theme “Closer” is present and inspired by a variety of our sessions like “Advertificial Intelligence” with Luis Gaitán of Google México, “Radiografía de la Gen Z Dominicana: ¿La primer generación Glocal?” with Martín Cordova and Lovebrand VS. Users: It’s a Match! – Publicis Dominicana.

These sessions will focus on the impact of social media and will explore the conflict between community, brands and the new generations.

Which partners or brands are you most excited to be working with this year?

We are excited to be working with Nestle, Universidad Iberoamericana – UNIBE, and Miami Ad School.

What are some local trends you are seeing in your market?

The Dominican digital market is up and coming and trends like live streams and live content are very popular. Something that is also being used by brands are GIFS on Instagram. These animations are revolutionizing the whole industry helping create brand awareness on digital mediums. Video is popular globally and for our market is no exception.

What are some of the key questions that will be addressed during your edition of SMW?
