Social Media Week Hamburg Kicks Off Today!

Social Media Week Hamburg (#SMWHH) officially beings this week and we are excited to announce that Toby Daniels, Founder & Executive Director at Social Media Week, will be onsite to deliver one of the opening keynotes kicking off their 8th edition of the conference. During his keynote, Toby will discuss our 2019 global theme, STORIES: With Great Influence Comes Great Responsibility, which will explore how the stories we tell, consume and share have the potential to shape who we are and what we become.

Dr. Carsten Brosda (Senator for Culture and Media of the City of Hamburg) will welcome attendees on day one with a talk about the challenges and opportunities for the future of digital communication.

This year’s event will also focus on Influencer Marketing and their responsibility for clearly defining ads and the risks of sharing personal opinions in their work. Marlis Jahnke (Managing Director of inpromo GmbH) will discuss the broad and important mid- and micro-influencers scene in the current HashtagLove survey, which she will introduce at the SMWHH for the first time.

During the week, SMWHH attendees will hear from a diverse selection of speakers discussing topics including:

  • Employer branding and storytelling in recruitment and how it renews the working world for companies, as well as for applicants and employees.
  • Rapidly changing technological possibilities of virtual and augmented reality and how it requires media companies and audiences to constantly change their reading and viewing habits.
  • The trend towards active consumers who enter into partnerships with brands they select and communicate through social media to achieve socially relevant goals is driving brands to rethink and change the role of consumers.
  • Bureaucracy influencers and politicians, increasingly reaching their voters and critics through social and digital media and how it has already changed the political discourse and contact between citizens and authorities.
