We sat down to speak with the organizers of SMW Durban about the forthcoming event, what sessions have the most intricate ties to this year’s theme, which partners and brands they’re most looking forward to working with, key questions that will be addressed in their specific SMW edition, and much more.

What do you think will be the most important attendee takeaways from this year’s conference?

Attendees will learn first-hand ways to make money through social media from leading experts and influencers and how to tap into the digital movement.

Which session is your team the most excited about?

All of the sessions listed are great and powerful, but the one we are particularly excited about is the “Lights, Camera, Content session, which will be hosted by some of Africa’s biggest media and content giants.

How does your overall agenda tie into this year’s global theme?

We are focused on showing South Africa how the future we dreamt about involving tech and media is in play now. They will witness some of the newest tech, creative ideas, and insights by professionals who have made an impact in the digital space that will share their story on the role it played on them. Thus tapping into the storytelling aspect of the conference and providing a space for individuals to feel one with the event and the various speakers.

Which partners or brands are you most excited to be working with this year?

We have a powerful list of partners and sponsors that will be playing a key role in this event. We are excited to work with The Premiers Office, Durban Tourism, Intouch Africa, Valerian Media, Hilton Hotels, and many more.

What are some local trends you are seeing in your market?

We are seeing the rise of influencer marketing in a big way, as individuals and celebrities are making a bigger name for themselves and for brands through the great partnership that is being built by influencer Marketing.

There is a great shift in the way small businesses are starting to see the importance of digitalization and tapping into the whole tech and digital space as a means to grow and develop themselves.

What are some of the key questions that will be addressed during your edition of SMW?

  • How does one make money through social media?
  • What is the current impact that social media and digital is having on the country
  • How can the government benefit from the digital movement?
  • Is Twitter dead?
