Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas and insights into social media and technology's impact on business, society, and culture.


Each year SMW partners with a variety of global brands and organizations in an effort to create conversations around human connectivity and creativity through social media. This year’s global theme is “Upwardly Mobile: The Rise of the Connected Class” and we will be addressing this topic as it is relevant to Chicago. In addition to traditional SMW programming focused on social media best practices, innovation and insights, SMW Chicago 2015 will also examine how social media and digital platforms are impacting specific sectors that are of particular relevance to Chicago, including Innovation & Startups, Social Good, Politics & Media, and Sports.

o One of the United States’ top cities for innovation and technology, Chicago has a thriving digital innovation and startup community. We will be examining the opportunities and challenges within Chicago’s startup community and how entrepreneurs can best use and leverage social media to their advantage.

o Along with a strong work ethic, Chicago is also known as a city passionately committed to social good and philanthropy—giving back to organizations that are helping to improve our city and aid its most underserved residents. SMW Chicago will explore how innovations in social media and digital platforms can be used to help improve and expand these efforts.

o At its roots, Chicago is a city immersed in politics. The media and digital world have become crucial to political success. We’ll seek to examine how social media has impacted political campaigns and media coverage of politics here and nationwide.

o To be a Chicagoan means to be a fan of Chicago sports. Our city has been positioned as a “Sports Capital,” and we will take a look at how digital and social media tools are not only used among teams and fans, but also as part of business strategies and plans.

SMW Chicago programming and conversations will be shaped by a diverse group of speakers, thoughts and ideas. This unique group of leaders and innovators will examine the intersection of social technology and creativity, and help us think differently about social media as a whole.

Jordan Troy

Junior Account Executive, JTPR

Jordan joined Jasculca Terman Strategic Communications (JT) after completing an eight-month internship at the firm. She has experience conducting strategic research and grassroots outreach, assisting in event planning and management, and providing media relations for clients. She contributes to work on a variety of clients including After School Matters, the Chicago Innovation Exchange at the University of Chicago, Midtown Educational Foundation, One Million Degrees and the National Minority Supplier Development Council.
