5 Sports Industry Events Taking Place at SMW Chicago

Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas and insights into social media and technology's impact on business, society, and culture.


Sports are unlike anything else. Once you’re a fan of a team, your allegiance doesn’t change. It’s not like cars, or clothes, or gadgets, where your needs, budget, and interest changes over time. Instead, your affinity is just about permanent.

A panel of representatives from the media, sports teams and fans themselves will discuss how social media is changing the way fans interact with sports before, during and after the game.

2. SEXISM IN SPORTS THROUGH THE DIGITAL LENS

Join us for a fireside chat with WGN’s Amy Guth and WSCR-AM The Score’s Julie DiCaro as we address sexism in the sports industry and online bullying. This part of the sports social media culture needs to be addressed to determine how we can curb online bullying and allow everyone to engage in conversation online even on traditionally unpopular topics.

3. SOCIAL’S IMPACT ON SPORTS MEDIA

Join our experienced panel of sports media experts for a discussion regarding the current and future implications of social/digital change on this multi-billion dollar industry.

4. THE NEW DIGITALLY-FOCUSED SPORT MEDIA RESEARCH AGENDA

Dr. Cole will reflect on the trajectory of this sport media research by discussing the themes, issues, and insights dominating the conversation. She¹ll also discuss some of the promising and innovative directions being taken by digitally-focused sport research.

5. CHICAGO’S PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAMS GET SOCIAL

Join the digital marketing managers for the Chicago Bulls, Cubs, Fire, Sky and White Sox to learn how professional sports teams are leveraging social media to promote their brand, increase engagement with customers (the fans) and impact their bottom line.
