San Francisco and New York might be the most prominent startup ecosystems in the U.S., but something big is underway between the coasts. Detroit has 50 percent more VC-backed startups than it did a year ago. In Buffalo, a 7,000-square-foot incubator has taken the place of an old windshield wiper factory. Last year, seven companies in Pittsburgh raised $15 million or more—only two did the year prior.
In this session, TechCrunch editor and author John Biggs will give a sneak preview of his new book, which explores the unique challenges and opportunities of building a business in the Midwest. A Ohio native, he will call on personal experience and extensive research to provide an outlook on innovation in the Midwest and offer up best practices for business owners and entrepreneurs looking to make a name for themselves between the coasts.
