Implications of Digital Tech on Media Coverage of Political Campaigns

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Hosted by Jasculca Terman Strategic Communications

Main Stage 2 - The Merchandise Mart 222 W Merchandise Mart Plaza Chicago Illinois 60654

Social media is revolutionizing the traditional political campaign operation—whether to engage and activate a candidate’s supporters, or to announce a candidate’s entrance into the race or accusations about the opposition. While this adoption of digital communications can make a reporter’s job more challenging (they can’t necessarily “break” the news), there are also unique opportunities that arise as a result of it—new forums for debates and conversations with the candidates that are hosted by broadcast media to continual live updates from the campaign trail on Twitter. Join us to hear from the news media about how their digital teams are using tools in unique ways to connect readers and viewers to the campaigns.
