Vanity metrics are dead.
Historically social media success has been measured by how many fans you have, how many followers you have, how many likes you get. Then we got smart and thought adopting print media metrics – such as impressions – was the way to go.
But 100,000s of followers and millions of impressions won’t matter if your audience is not engaged and doesn’t take action on your content. Without engagement, a tweet has a lifespan of 18 minutes (or less) – then it’s gone. Without engagement, organic reach for a post on Facebook is less than 3% of your page followers.
