A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: The Future of Voice & Visual Discovery on Social

2:00 PM - 2:45 PM

Hosted by Kohl's & Performics

Venue SIX10: Stage One 610 S Michigan Ave Chicago IL 60605

Full sensory experiences—voice, visual, video—are replacing, or at least supplementing, simple text on social and search platforms. To illustrate, 27% of people now use voice search multiple times per day (Hubspot, 2016). Visual search is also accelerating, with the help of Pinterest Lens, which enables consumers to point their smartphone cameras at anything they see in the physical world and “search” for related things on Pinterest. 40% of people use visual search prior to making a purchase (Power Reviews, 2016). And video ads are the most engaging format on social. New formats on channels like Pinterest and Instagram are exposing content to users in unique new ways, and transforming how people discover products and services on social.

In this session, Andrea Port, Senior Manager, Social from Kohl’s and Ryan Sullivan, EVP Performance Services from Performics will discuss how brands must evolve in this new landscape, illustrated by examples from Kohl’s, including high performing video campaigns. Attendees will take away evolutions like:

  • From Plain Text to Full Senses: Optimization of ads and experiences must move from best practices around plain text to best practices around full senses—sight and voice
  • Integrated Dynamic Media and Content: Use all available and appropriate data sources to deliver high-impact, cohesive real-time experiences, from ad content to website content
  • From Pull to Predictive: Although a bit on the horizon, the consumer data associated with how people interact with “things”—intelligent agents, home, car—can be used to predict needs/wants
