With the increasing popularity of social media to share news and updates about sports, fans are flocking to digital sites not only to read the latest news, but to interact with the teams, players, reporters and each other. The Cubs recent playoff run provides a perfect example of this phenomenon. Crain’s Chicago business reporter Danny Ecker noted that Cubs’ playoff wins over the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals were the two most-tweeted-about sporting events in October, with 900,000 and 717,000 Tweets, respectively. A panel of representatives from the media, sports teams and fans themselves will discuss how social media is changing the way fans interact with sports before, during and after the game.
