CEO, Morton Salt
Christian Herrmann is not your typical CEO. Of course, he has nearly 20 years of management experience and leads one of the most well-known companies in America. But he’s also the type of leader who prefers to throw out the playbook and think differently, especially when it comes to Morton Salt.
As CEO of Morton Salt, Christian is dedicated to transforming the nearly 170-year-old company into a more progressive, dynamic and performance-driven organization. And he’s driving this change through collaborative leadership, financial stewardship, and transparent communications.
Through his vision and leadership, the company is on track to quadruple its earnings since he assumed the role of CEO in 2012. Now he’s setting his sights on an ambitious long-term strategy to propel Morton’s growth, efficiency and culture well into the future.
Beyond the business results, Christian has also reignited Morton’s workplace culture with a new company promise and values to drive employee engagement. In addition, he moved Morton Salt’s headquarters office in December 2016 to an all-new, open office concept in Chicago’s West Loop to create a more innovative and collaborative environment.
At the heart of Morton’s workplace and marketplace transformation is a little girl walking in the rain with an umbrella and a canister of salt. The Morton Salt Girl – the brand’s icon for over a century – is inspiring a completely new point of view for the brand that is more purposeful than ever.
Since joining Morton, Christian has championed an increasing focus and investment in the brand in an effort to unlock its full potential and reignite it for the future. Now the Morton brand is coming to life in some very powerful ways.
Last year, Morton launched its first-ever Masterbrand platform with a mind-bending music video in collaboration with rock band OK Go. The platform, dubbed Walk Her Walk, is inspired by the iconic Morton Salt Girl and serves as a brand promise to step up and make a difference in the world. Walk Her Walk will continue to grow and evolve as a platform for the Morton brand, with continued activation planned in 2017 and beyond. As Christian likes to say, “We’re just getting started.”
Prior to joining Morton, Christian served as the head of Investor Relations at K+S Group, the parent company of Morton. He also held various roles in investment banking and corporate finance before joining K+S.
When he’s not busy shaping the future of Morton, you can find Christian running along the lake path with his Scottish Terrier, Cooper, or training for triathlons with his wife and daughter.
