Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas and insights into social media and technology's impact on business, society, and culture.

Atul started a visual communication, corporate branding and marketing services company

– Pugmarks, in early 1986. His company catered to SME businesses in north India. In a

span of 10 years, his company earned a good brand and reputation and was a sought-after

service provider in the region.

In early 1996, just when Internet was just launched in India, he started an online service

company – Pugmarks InterWeb Pvt. Ltd., to provide website development services. That

was a time when Yahoo was just a directory and the most popular search engines – Lycos

& Excite are unheard-of today. Google, Live / MSN / Bing were not even born.

His was one of the first companies in India to offer website development and online

marketing & promotion services to Indian and US customers. Due to his early start, he has

had a vast and rich experience in web, eCommerce and search landscape and has literally

witnessed the evolution of the Internet to what it is today. By the year 2000, his company

was one of the leading brands in India for online services. He raised the first round of

Venture Funding for his company in the same year.

By 2001, his company served over 3,000 clients. He launched the websites of almost all

(close to 50) leading publication groups of India, like – India Today Group, Times of India

Group, Indian Express, Business Standard, TV-18, The Tribune, Computer World, Nai

Dunia, Week Magazine, Malayala Manorama, Deccan Herald, Encyclopedia Britannica,

Daily Excelsior, Discover India etc.

Corporates such as Reliance Group, Bharti AirTel, Tata Group, BHEL, NIIT, Maruti,

Hero, Thompson Press, Trident Group, Vardhman, Oswals, DRDO, JK Tourism, Punjab

National Bank, PunCom, Enron and several others were not far behind. It was hard to find

a corporate in India, which was not in some way connected to the services of his company.

Atul and his company have won awards from Software Technology Parks of India. He

has been invited to speak and chair at various industry seminars and conferences in CII

& TiE and is a highly respected figure in the field of Information Technology. He has

been a TiE Charter Member and an elected Council Member of CII for several years. He

is a Moderator of Social Media Marketing Group on LinkedIn, the 3rd largest group on

LinkedIn with over 550,000 members.
