How to survive Social Media Week Lagos 2014
Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas and insights into social media and technology's impact on business, society, and culture.
Social Media Week Lagos is as vibrant as the city itself. This year promises to be even more event packed and busier than last year.Without careful planning it can get overwhelming. If you have not already booked the events you are interested in then book now before all the spaces go. Download the the official SMW app next. This will sync all the events you booked on your phone and will ensure you stay on track.
Book in advance or get a VIP Pass
Social Media Week is like a candy shop – you cant make up your mind on what events to attend. Try to book your events according to the themes that interest you and also by the locations of the hubs. To avoid missing out on the exclusive events buy a VIP PASS. Also bare in mind that Lagos has traffic during the day so plan you commute between hubs in advance.
Last year there was a shuttle bus which transported attendees from hub to hub. You can also get around the city via taxi (most expensive, always bargain), keke ( small motorized 3 tyre vehicles) and the Danfo ( public bus). Finding a taxi in Lagos can be tricky especially at night. The good news is the easy taxi app makes this a breeze. Easy Taxi is a completely free smartphone app which allows users to hail a licensed taxi in just one click. Last night we put easy taxi to the test when we needed to get home from a great event at the Ginger Tapas ‘n Grill and it worked quite well. We would also recommend using Metro Taxi and Tranzit to quickly book transportation around Lagos. Also remember that some unofficial events will not be held at the hubs so check the Nokia maps for the locations.
We work hard and party harder
At social media week we not only give you a week packed full of knowledge and networking but also parties. You will meet amazing people at SMW, remember to carry allot of business cards to exchange with them. Don’t miss out on the epic SMW parties which are intimate and special. Find all the events that are not to be missed here.
Lagos is not only Victoria Island (VI), you will love VI for its charm but if you get a chance, explore the real Lagos and go on the mainland. Whilst you are at it try the local cuisine, make sure you visit Suya University, Fela’s shrine, and creative spaces like Freedoms Square. Don’t forget to take Lagos with you home, grab some gifts from the numerous markets in Lagos.
