The year 2015 will mark the 90th anniversary of the first Nigerian popular music recordings, first done in 1925, by Ladipo Solanke and Justus Domingo, under the Zonophone label. Music in Africa celebrates Nigeria’s popular music heritage over the last 90 years, from its rudimentary origins to the modern digital age.
Towards this, there shall be a panel discussion, featuring some of Nigeria’s most important Music stakeholders from across the Industry sectors. The panel shall look back at the nation’s musical heritage and look forward into its future. Confirmed speakers include veteran Broadcast Journalist and Music Historian, Benson Idonije. Blogger, Producer and Music Historian, Uchenna Ikonne. Mark Redguard CEO of the 960 Music Group (former CMO of Spinlet) and special guest speaker, Obi Asika, former Chairman of Storm 360 and Dragon Africa, amongst others. The discussion shall be moderated by the West African Regional Editor of Music in Africa- Ed Emeka Keazor.
The evening shall also feature a special tribute to eight legends of the Nigerian Music Industry, who have contributed significantly to its growth, over the last 90 years, and whose work has laid the foundations of its future.
