Tamzin Byrne is an Australian science communicator working for Cambridge start-up GeneAdviser after a year in Kenya at the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology. She’s written about everything from the Higgs boson to stem cells to charismatic megafauna. As a science student, she quickly realised she was better at writing about science than doing it, so retrained as a radio journalist and joined the ABC, Australia’s public broadcaster. Tamzin now works in communication, helping scientists share their work with the public, funding bodies and their colleagues.

Dr. Lewis Dartnell (www.lewisdartnell.com) is a UK Space Agency research fellow based at the University of Leicester, studying how life, and signs of its existence, might survive the intense cosmic radiation on the surface of Mars. He also holds an STFC Science in Society Fellowship, and alongside his astrobiology research writes regular science articles in newspapers and magazines, and has appeared in TV shows such as BBC Stargazing Live, Wonders of the Universe and Horizon. He has published a popular science book introducing astrobiology, ³Life in the Universe: A Beginner¹s Guide² (tinyurl.com/LifeInTheUniverse) and also an illustrated children’s book with Dorling Kindersley, “My Tourists Guide to the Solar System” (tinyurl.com/TouristsGuide). His third book, ŒThe Knowledge: How to Rebuild our World from Scratch¹ (www.the-knowledge.org) is a Sunday Times Book of the Year, and is out now in paperback.
