SMWLA Advisor Spotlight: Shira Lazar
Social Media Week is a leading news platform and worldwide conference that curates and shares the best ideas and insights into social media and technology's impact on business, society, and culture.
Welcome to the third in our Social Media Week Los Angeles Advisor Spotlight Series, where we sit down with members of the SMWLA Advisory Board and other prominent members of the Los Angeles social media community to get a better understanding of how they’re influencing, shaping, and working in social media.
Today we’re talking with Shira Lazar, the co-founder of the successful web series What’s Trending. As the face of the biggest live-streams on the web, Shira won Fast Company’s 2011 Most Influential Women in Technology. For more information, you can check out her full bio here.
Who are you? What’s your business?
Hi I’m Shira Lazar and I am the co-founder of What’s Trending. We’re a social news talk show and 24/7 hub online.
What’s your preferred social media presence and why?
Each social media platform is important and provides a way to connect with a unique audience. It’s like picking your favorite child- you just don’t do that!
What are you most looking forward to this year at SMWLA?
I am most looking forward to our launch party event at What’s Trending, honoring the most social and innovative individuals and brands in the City of Angels.
How do you stay current on what’s popular?
I stay current with a lot of browsing and reading what my friends and people I’m following are sharing online. I’m also a big fan of Reddit, Buzzfeed and YouTube Trends. If I see a certain piece of content being consistently shared, it’s a sign it’s going to get popular. That’s typically the trigger for content that we then curate for What’s Trending.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy connecting with so many different types of incredible people, sharing their stories and making my audience and the people I’m interviewing feel good and happy through what I love doing.
