Traditional advertising was built on the role of the “middleman,” in which companies relied on agencies, networks, websites, and platforms to distribute targeted messages to their most relevant consumers. As marketing has become more complex and data-driven with advent and maturation of digital media, these intermediary partners have proliferated.
