TJ Mizell, Son of Legendary Jam Master Jay of Run DMC, to DJ #SMWNYC Opening Party

To celebrate the 9th annual Social Media Week conference in New York, we’re hosting this year’s official opening reception.

This celebration helps kickstart the 2017 global theme “Language and the Machine”, which explores how technology is changing how we connect and communicate.

TJ Mizell, DJ and son of the late Jam Master Jay of Run D.M.C, will get behind the turntables at Samsung 837.  He entertains/spins at various special events, fashion shows and nightclubs in New York and around the world.

His skills take the experience to a whole new level with mesmerizing soundtracks. The majority of his musical influence comes from his father and his mentors at the Scratch DJ Academy founded by JMJ. TJ maintains his authenticity behind the 1 and 2’s with seamless blends and precise cuts during his mash-up sets of Hip Hop, Dubstep, and everything in between and beyond.

The Official Opening Party is for #SMWNYC passholders only, and you must be 21+ to attend. Cocktails, wine and beer will be provided courtesy of Johnnie Walker, Don Julio, Ketel One, and Brooklyn Brewery and passed food courtesy of LDV Hospitality.

Rome Fortune To Perform at the Official #SMWNYC Closing Party

On Friday night, February 26th, the Official VIP Closing Party will take place at the iconic Diamond Horseshoe venue at The Paramount Hotel. If you’re an Insider Passholder, join us to wrap up the 2016 edition of Social Media Week along with LDV Hospitality.

We’re bringing together New York’s digital elite with a complete open bar featuring Heineken’s portfolio of beers, specialty cocktails from Jose Cuervo, wine and bubbly. There will be plenty of dancing, food, we’re excited to announce that Rome Fortune will perform!

In the most cosmic sense of the word, Rome Fortune is Atlanta’s newest star. Green-bearded and crop-topped, 6’5” in cowboy boots, he takes the stage like an eclipse and flips straighforward bars into lunar poetry. But even with such otherworldly swagger, Rome’s music connects with fans because of how powerfully (and sometimes painfully) human it really is.

His new album, Jerome Raheem Fortune (out Friday 2/26 on Fool’s Gold) is the true story of this man who fell to earth. Rome’s Beautiful Pimp mixtapes (“rap as motivational speaking, generous and all-inclusive” – Pitchfork) and collaborations with everyone from turn-up trailblazers OG Maco and ILoveMakonnen to Four Tet and Toro Y Moi were merely the prelude to JRF’s nakedly honest storytelling.

Over loose, dreamlike tracks from longtime collaborator Cubby, Rome gets extra real about his struggles: his parents, his children, and their mothers… his dreams, his demons, and the drugs that may be fueling both. Even Kaytranada produced single “Dance” is an outlier, an uptempo song about escape rather than elation. Yet nothing on Jerome Raheem Fortune is a drag; over the course of 11 potent tracks, Rome Fortune presents hip hop catharsis at its most compelling. Head towards the outer limits of rap with a guide who is intimately familiar.

EVENT SPOTLIGHT: The Future Of Emerging Platforms: An Interactive Shorty Awards Trivia Game

The Shorty Awards are proud to present an interactive session featuring thought leaders from their community of Academy members, winners and collaborators. Hear from the top brands and organizations on social about what captivates, engages and moves audiences, and then put your noggin to the test with game show trivia questions the entire audience can participate in.

The topic of discussion will be emerging social and digital media platforms. At this point Snapchat is the emerging platform of record, Periscope is catching on, and no one seems to know what will (or will not) happen on Peach. This also extends to new ways brands are publishing #content and doing community management.

Register today, and bookmark this event to your schedule! On Friday, February 26th at 4:00pm, join the Shorty Awards at the SVA Theatre for “The Future Of Emerging Platforms: An Interactive Shorty Awards Trivia Game“. We’ll hear welcome the following leaders to the SMW New York stage:

  • Mark Borum (Co-Founder & VP of Marketing, Reelio)
  • Rachel Christensen (Managing Social Media Editor, BuzzFeed)
  • Gregory Galant (CEO & Co-Founder, Shorty Awards)
  • Matthew Knell (VP of Social Media and Platform Partnerships, About.com)

Monday Funday: SocialVibe Engagement & Opening Party!

It’s hard to believe it’s almost Friday and the end of #SMW12.

Before we bring this year’s festivities to a close, we wanted to post a little throw back to a Monday night and Tuesday morning not too long ago.  We began #SMW12 with two epic SocialVibe collaborations; the first being our #SMW12 opening party which took place at Greenwich Village Country club and was hosted by Nokia and sponsored by Social Vibe.

The evening was centered around engaging activities, like miniature golf and pictures with animal statues, epitomizing the social nature of SMW12- and SocialVibe. Surprises littered the evening from Nokia’s special room to the SocialPix photobooth immediate upload to Facebook.

Then on Tuesday at our Advertising & Marketing Hub JWT, SocialVibe hosted a panel entitled Why Engagement Should Be Spelled A-T-T-E-N-T-I-O-N that featured Digital Editor Michael Learmonth, SocialVibe SVP of Sales Mike Barbeau, Head of Planning at SocialVibe Adrian Barrow, VP of Integrated Marketing at Fuse Vanessa Montes, and CEO of Deep Focus Ian Schafer

The panel focused on consumer engagement in digital advertising and consumer “exchanges.” Looking at services, R&D, and creativity as critical aspects to earn value and enhance engagement. By creating opportunities to do social good, giving your community attention or creating unique experiences will increase the likelihood that consumers will do things for you.

Citing case studies from companies like HP’s use of consumer forums to DuoLingo for translation services, SocialVibe really highlighted what you can do and the type of thinking that truly resonates with consumers. “If you have to ask your consumers to pay attention, you’re not doing it right,” just may characterize the views of the event. And with over 600 views on their Livestream and more than 15 comments, we think they get the hang of engagement and meeting people where they are, making this one event you’ll want to see if you missed it in action.

Many thanks to SocialVibe for partnering up with us at this years #SMW12! Partners like them are what make Social Media Week everything that it is.

TJ Mizell Will DJ the #SMWNYC Official Closing Party!

To wrap up the 2016 edition of Social Media Week new York, organizers Crowdcentric and LDV Hospitality are hosting the Official Closing VIP Party in New York City.

We’re taking over Diamond Horseshoe and bringing together New York’s digital elite with a complete open bar featuring Heineken’s portfolio of beers, specialty cocktails from Jose Cuervo, wine and bubbly. There will be plenty of music, dancing, food, and surprises!

We’re excited to announce that one of the music performances of the night will be TJ Mizell!

TJ Mizell

TJ Mizell follows in the footsteps of his father, the late Jam Master Jay of “RUN D.M.C.” TJ has harnessed skills passed down to him and mastered his own technique – an eclectic style that is Hip-Hop and EDM influenced. He is an innovative artist fusing his love for fashion, dance music, & Hip-Hop to create a diverse portfolio.

In 2014, TJ became the official touring DJ for rapper “A$AP FERG.” He quickly hit the road and has toured across the world playing some of the hottest venues and festivals the past couple of years alongside Ferg & Marty Baller. Working with many superstars in both the dance and hip-hop industries, TJ has collaborated with other numerous artists, including Mia, Paper Diamond, DJ Scratch, and RUN D.M.C. His mission is to share his musical obsession with the entire world just as his dad did in the 80’s.

If he isn’t scratching or producing, you can find the trendsetting and skating through the streets of NYC and around the globe!
